We want to provide an update on completed work and what to expect as construction continues.

We finished installing a headwall inlet on the west side of Thornton Road to help guide stormwater into the underground box culverts. The work area has been backfilled and covered with a temporary asphalt surface. Final repaving will take place near the end of the project in 2027.
You may occasionally see flaggers on Thornton Road to direct traffic around ongoing construction activities.

Next week, we will dig two small holes on Iva Lane near Thornton Drive to confirm the elevation of an underground wastewater line. This work should only take a few hours, and flaggers will be on-site to help direct traffic. Water, wastewater, and storm drains share space under the road and there are specific requirements regarding spacing. We will use the elevation information to determine what adjustments are needed to an existing water line. The adjustment is needed before we can complete the storm drain installation in this area.

What is this project all about?
This project is improving the storm drain system in the South Lamar area and will help protect the area from flooding. In addition to the drainage improvements, the project includes mobility improvements on Bluebonnet Lane and Del Curto. Construction started in November 2025 and is expected to be complete in 2027.
