Programming to Restart this Sunday (Nov. 2) at JBL Complex at a Reduced Capacity; No Changes to Traffic Pattern
The Asheville-Buncombe Youth Soccer Association (ABYSA) will restart programming at John B. Lewis (JBL) Complex on Sunday, November 2. In preparation for programming to restart, the City of Asheville's Transportation and Fire departments performed a traffic count study and analysis to assess potential emergency access needs. A neighborhood meeting was hosted by ABYSA on October 23 where City officials proposed a potential traffic plan. In the following week, ABYSA decided they will operate on a further reduced capacity for the time being, eliminating the need for a traffic plan initially. Regardless of programming levels being below necessary thresholds for traffic control, the City will continue to observe and monitor traffic congestion and emergency response times in the area, and if necessary will require ABYSA to institute traffic control measures. The City will provide updates as soon as any changes are made.
The public can also sign up for traffic plan updates and regular notifications via ABYSA related to programming at JBL Complex by emailing fields@abysa.org.
What’s Next: The City of Asheville has partnered with NCDOT to build a temporary bridge near the former Gashes Creek Bridge. Once the temporary bridge opens, the current two-way traffic design connecting Azalea Road to Swannanoa River Road will be removed, and the pre-Helene one-way traffic pattern will return.
Public Works crews made improvements to the shoulder and guardrails on Azalea Road this week.
