Veridea Groundbreaking
On October 28th, local leaders and project partners gathered in Apex to break ground on what will be the first building to go vertical at Veridea! The facility, named “Summit House,” is a 291-unit multi-family development, designed by Planworx Architecture in Raleigh. RXR is the developer of Veridea, a sustainable, mixed-use urban community on 1,100 acres between Highway 55 and I-540. The project is now well underway with its initial infrastructure construction and site preparation, with activity clearly visible as you drive along its Highway 55 border and the Veridea Parkway border.

| We often find ourselves reflective as we wrap up another calendar year. For the Town of Apex, and the Economic Development department in particular, 2025 presented a few challenges but far more opportunities and successes.
At the “peak” of it all was the announcement that the future NC Children’s Hospital chose Apex as its home. The 230-acre campus, nestled in the heart of the Veridea development, will be the first stand-alone children’s hospital in the state and, when complete, will be the second largest in the country. At a projected $3 billion total investment, the creation of 3,000 construction jobs over 10 years, and the creation of 5,000 permanent jobs, NC Children’s represents one of the most transformational projects the state has ever announced. The Town of Apex staff was proud to partner with the representatives from NC Children’s, Wake County, and RXR to ensure this opportunity became a reality.
Citizens, visitors, and businesses alike are now enjoying reconstructed and improved parking at the Saunders Street lot in downtown Apex. The project began in January and included portions of the lot to be temporarily closed throughout the 10-month project. While we recognize the temporary challenges this presented, the lot now boasts 392 spaces, which is an additional 152 spaces than previously. There are also abundant EV charging stations.
And finally, a challenge and a success story all in one – LaunchAPEX Cohort #9! We received 63 applications for this year’s cohort, which is the largest applicant pool in the program’s 7-year history! The class size is limited to 20 businesses, so many hopefuls were referred to other partner organizations and programs. LaunchAPEX is a business training, networking, mentoring, and financial information program that is led by Apex Economic Development. Wake Tech provides the business training through their Small Business Center.
On behalf of the entire team at the Economic Development department, we wish you a happy and healthy holiday season. We look forward to seeing you in 2026!
Joanna Helms, MEDP
Economic Development Director
