Trade Partner Event Hosts Contractors

On August 6, Harper General Contractors hosted a trade partner outreach open house to share information about the new West Asheville pool in Malvern Hills Park. Harper serves as the Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) on this project and will utilize pre-qualified trade and specialty contractors for a wide range of services including demolition, masonry, structural steel, roof patching, plumbing, mechanical, grading, tiling, and landscaping – just to name a few. Dozens of vendors attended, asking questions and building excitement for this priority City of Asheville project. These and other local contractors are invited to submit prequalifications now. Bidding will start this month with construction anticipated to begin later this year.

What does Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) mean?

CMAR is a process the City of Asheville uses to expedite some projects, so they are completed as quickly as possible. The recent renovation of HomeTrust Park used this process. On this pool project, it allows Harper to begin many elements of the construction process while still in the design phase. Even though it increases the overall cost, bringing a new pool to West Asheville is a priority community investment.

Historic Charm Meets Modern Use: Pool House Has a New Roof

The pool house proudly debuted a new roof in July! This small piece of the larger project ensures the building's interior remains protected while it awaits further renovations.

By tackling this preliminary work, the project team continues to keep this community investment on the fast track. When the new pool opens, renovations will blend the pool house's 1930s charm with modern standards, including:

• Year-Round Access: New heating and ventilation so restrooms remain open in every season
• Modern Amenities: Complete overhauls of electrical and water utilities
• Fresh Fixtures: Upgraded sinks, toilets, flooring, and lighting
• Accessibility Upgrades: Enhancing the building so it is welcoming, safe, and easily accessible for everyone in our community

Community Investments Throughout the City

This new pool isn’t the only major municipal construction project in your city.
