A graphic titled “Tropical Storm Helene Debris Meter” shows progress toward clearing storm debris. On the left, a vertical bar chart labeled “Cubic Yards” tracks progress from 0 to 3,000,000 cubic yards. The bar is partially filled, indicating 175,685 cubic yards of debris collected so far.

Storm Debris Update

To date, debris contractors have collected an impressive 175,685 cubic yards of storm debris. Recovery crews remain hard at work, locations of storm debris collections are posted daily on the storm debris management webpage.

Buncombe County property owners, including Asheville city residents, who are impacted by Hurricane Helene and do not have debris removal insurance, may apply to have qualified disaster debris removed from their property at no cost through the Private Property Debris Removal (PPDR) Program. The program also covers the demolition of eligible unsafe structures. To see if you are eligible for debris removal or demolition of unsafe structures on your property, visit one of the PPDR application centers across the county opening or apply online here. Residents can also call the One Buncombe hotline, 828-250-6100, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., and select option “2.”
