Maverick Plaza at La Villita: Mural Opportunity (District 1)
Maverick Plaza at La Villita: Mural Opportunity (District 1)
The City of San Antonio’s Department of Arts & Culture has identified La Villita’s Maverick Plaza, identified by the red circle below, as an opportunity for a public art mural project. The Department of Arts & Culture is at the beginning stages of this public art project, and we need your input on what mural theme you’d like to see in Maverick Plaza located in Historic La Villita.
The mural will be placed on the exterior wall of a soon to be constructed restaurant. In 2017 San Antonio was designated a Creative City of Gastronomy by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). San Antonio is one of two cities in the United States to receive this honor.
Maverick Plaza will play a key role in helping further the culinary legacy of San Antonio by creating three new restaurants and an outdoor educational cooking kitchen. This revitalization effort seeks to focus on education and preservation of historic cooking techniques, along with honoring the importance of generational recipes and the importance cooking and eating that brings joy to many.
