Fayetteville Street Corridor
Fayetteville Street Corridor
Fayetteville Street is considered a Transit Emphasis Corridor (TEC). A transit emphasis corridor is an arterial, highway or freeway upon which high levels of transit service are already operated or may be operated in the future. Within Durham, these corridors include heavily traveled routes that connect bus riders to popular destinations like their work, doctors, school, shopping, community services, or they can connect to other bus routes. Improvements are prioritized on these routes to help buses arrive often and on time.
Fayetteville TEC Study Area
The Durham County Transit Plan includes funding for bus and pedestrian improvements within designated transit corridors. The Fayetteville Street Transit Corridor is served by GoDurham Route 5 and has the second highest ridership in the GoDurham system. Route 5 also is one of one of several high frequency routes in Durham, meaning it runs all day and serves stops every 15 minutes.
Route 5 connects local neighborhoods to Downtown Durham, Southpoint Mall, and many popular businesses and community resources along Fayetteville Street. Important destinations along this corridor include North Carolina Central University, Hillside High School, Eagle Village Shopping Center, Phoenix Crossing Shopping Center, Lincoln Community Health Center, WD Hill Recreation Center, and the Hayti Heritage Center.
