To reduce flood risk, our Engineering Design team has put together four concept solutions which you can see in the next three images. Which of these projects are acceptable to you? Check all that apply.

Channel Improvement A - Hybrid channel. This option removes 100-year flood risk from all 15 homes. It promotes flow of water through natural areas which promotes biodiversity. It increases channel capacity while minimizing disturbance to existing natural areas. Existing concrete channel elements will be replaced with more natural materials. Street flooding may continue to be an issue on Paces Mill Lane.

Optional buyouts for homes in the floodplain: The City buys homes when other structural or maintenance solutions are infeasible, ineffective or have a disproportionately high cost relative to the benefits they would achieve. Offers would be for the fair market value of the house as determined by an independent appraisal and be optional.

Channel Improvement B - Engineered Channel: This option also removes 100-year flood risk from all 15 homes. It requires minimum disturbance to the park. It uses a redesigned flow path that more efficiently drains water during flood events. Street flooding may continue to be an issue on Paces Mill Lane.

Channel Improvement C – Natural Channel Design This option removes 7 homes from the 100-year floodplain. 8 homes will remain in the floodplain. This option will most closely resemble a natural creek system once the project is constructed and vegetation is established and promotes biodiversity through the project area. This option also requires the highest amount of tree removal and disturbance to the park to install.
