Town of Wendell Hollybrook Park Property Survey

The Town of Wendell adopted a comprehensive system-wide Parks and Recreation Master Plan in 2019. As a part of that effort, community input was an intergral part of determining future facility needs and programming elements. A recurring theme among the study findings was the need to expand facilities, including neighborhood parks, more sports opportunities, an adventure play area, and increased opportunities for walking and running trails that connect to neighboring communities. The concept master plan was developed by McGill Associates with input from Town of Wendell staff and extensive public outreach.

The Town of Wendell invites you to share your thoughts and ideas on the Hollybrook Park property planning process. The site map below shows the proposed Hollybrook Park property. The Town purchased the land for the park in 2020 utilizing funds from the Town of Wendell Capital Improvement Program (CIP). The park property is located at 1201 S Hollybrook Road near the Angleview Acres, Groves of Deerfield, and Holly Pointe neighborhoods south of downtown Wendell.

The North Carolina Parks and Recreation Trust Fund (PARTF) is a state funded grant program for land acquisition and development of parks. The Town of Wendell is preparing a grant application for PARTF funding. PARTF is the primary source of funding to build and renovate facilities in the state parks as well as to buy land for new and existing parks. The PARTF program provides dollar-for-dollar grants to local governments. Recipients use the grants to acquire land and/or to develop park and recreational projects that serve the general public. The North Carolina Division of Parks and Recreation administers the program, RRS provides technical assistance to grantees and those applying for funding.
