I-76 Kenmore Leg Improvement Project: Virtual Public Involvement Meeting
I-76 Kenmore Leg Improvement Project: Virtual Public Involvement Meeting
Welcome!
The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is planning major repairs and improvements to I-76 between the I-76/77 interchange and the I-76/I-277/US-224 interchange referred to locally as the “Kenmore Leg” of the highway system in Akron.
This $125 million investment in Akron’s transportation infrastructure is a result of a comprehensive analysis of the Akron highway system by ODOT with input from local stakeholders.
The purpose of this public outreach effort is to share information on the recommended alternative selected. Public input is an important part of project development and provides valuable feedback that helps guide decision-making through all phases of project development.
We are currently seeking comments from anyone interested in the project. This website will explain the project and how you can provide comments.
The purpose of the proposed project is to:
- Improve safety
- Reduce traffic congestion
- Maintain deteriorating pavement and bridges
- Modernize the Kenmore Leg
The major project activities include:
- Noise wall construction
- Construction of new “braided” ramps
- Closure of Morse Street to through traffic beneath the Kenmore Leg
- Pavement replacement down to the base
- Widening and repairs to bridges
The Kenmore Leg has been used in recent years to handle additional traffic flow when ramps at the Central Interchange and other parts of the Akron highway system were closed for various construction projects. To accommodate this additional traffic flow on the Kenmore Leg, ODOT restriped the roadway from two lanes in each direction to three lanes in each direction and restriped one lane ramps to provide two lanes. These lane additions are being made permanent in this project.
Project construction may begin as early as 2027, depending on the availability of funding.
