Lake Wheeler Road Improvement Project

We are beginning the pre-design phase of the Lake Wheeler Road Improvement Project., The project will be making improvements to Lake Wheeler Road between Maywood Avenue and South Saunders Street. The project will implement the preferred custom streetscape identified in the ongoing Dix Edge Area Study. The cross-section includes a two-lane street with a center median, a six-foot sidewalk on the south side, and a wide sidewalk, amenities space, and a separated two-way bike facility on the north side.

The goal of the pre-design is to identify the appropriate intersection treatments that promotes safety and access to the park and the neighborhood. Once the intersection types are determined, the cross section will be finalized, and the project will move into full design.

The roundabouts would allow for properties that are affected by the median to be accessed from either travel direction. Enhanced pedestrian crossings and bike facilities would be included in the design. These locations are: Daladams Street and Hammel Drive
