As we kick off the new school year, please join elected representatives from the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners, Charlotte City Council, and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education for the Mental Health Awareness Intergovernmental Community Meeting. This  event will be hosted by:

  • LAURA MEIER, Commissioner, Mecklenburg County, District 5
  • KIMBERLY OWENS, Council Member, City of Charlotte, District 6
  • CYNTHIA STONE, Board Member, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education, District 5

The Intergovernmental Community Meeting will include: 

  • District 5/District 6 highlights of capital investments (where we've been , where we are and where we're going) 
  • Essential discussion on safeguarding mental health and wellness for adults and children
  • Resource tables with mental and physical health information. Gain practical insights on how regular physical activity can alleviate academic stress, reduce anxiety, and foster long-term emotional resilience
  • A facilitated Q & A session with elected officials and presenters.

Senior Day Family Reunion: Honoring the Legacy, Inspiring the Future

Celebrate the stories, traditions, and connections that make every family unique. Join District 2 Commissioner Vilma D. Leake on April 30 for a joyful gathering that brings older adults, families, and friends together to honor the past and inspire the future.

  • Celebrate family and community with Mecklenburg County’s MeckRoots program

  • Bring a family member or friend to share in the experience

  • Share your story by bringing a family photo — past or present 

  • Enjoy a boxed lunch, provided for all registered attendees

  • Connect across generations through memories, storytelling, and shared history

Join us as we honor the legacy of our community and celebrate the stories that continue to shape who we are.

Please join us to celebrate the renaming of 301 Billingsley Road in honor of Catherine M. Wilson, the first African American program administrator at the Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services.  The celebration will be Saturday, September 27th at 10:30 a.m. 

Wilson joined the Department of Social Services in 1947, retiring after 37 years of service to the residents of Mecklenburg County. Her tenure was marked by her humble leadership, wealth of knowledge, and unwavering dedication to clients.  The Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners approved the renaming in honor of Wilson in October 2024.  During this ceremony, we will honor Wilson’s legacy and her enduring impact on the residents of Mecklenburg County.  Light refreshments will be served.
