What is the Hackensack Comprehensive Bicycle Plan?

The Hackensack Comprehensive Bicycle Plan will be a document that will summarize the bicycle connectivity needs of the City of Hackensack, including the availability of bicycle facilities (bike lanes, shared roads, bike parking, etc.) and barriers and gaps in the existing bicycle network. It will make recommendations for the city to act on based on these findings, including a proposed bicycle network and specific designs/bicycle facilities.

Who is funding this effort?

The project to create the Hackensack Comprehensive Bicycle Plan is part of the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) Bureau of Safety, Bicycle, and Pedestrian Programs (BSBPP) Local Technical Assistance (LTA) program. This program is funded by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and is provided for free to the municipalities that apply for planning assistance.

When will the report be available?

Draft recommendations will be ready by late Fall of 2025, and a final plan will be available in early 2026.
