If you attended the February 2020 Public Meeting where Alternatives were presented, which design elements are you glad were carried forward?
I can't wait to have a safe sidewalk to use to take my kids from our neighborhood, Sedgefield, to Marsh Creek Park. It's so close, I hate that we have to drive there.

I am quite pleased by the addition of the sidewalks from Captial Blvd to Marsh Creek. The roundabout may work out well and that intersection definitely needs something. I wish you would also have added sidewalks from the portion of Trawick that heads towards New Bern avenue but this is a great start. The permanent drainage and easement areas look well placed.

I did not attend the February public meeting but did previously provide comments via email. Are you only wanting comments on this early design from meeting attendees? What percentage of affected property owners/interested residents attended the public meeting? Why limit public comment to the specific questions asked?

I am concerned about where water drainage will flow. All water on N/S of Marsh Creek Rd at Lark Circle has been directed on my property with no help from the City. Also, site clearance entering Marsh Creek from Lark Circle.

I'm happy to see the Left turn lane from Trawick to Capital Blvd is being carried further back. I understand the ROW limitations to widen the second Left turn lane, but being able to have at least one turn lane be carried back further down Trawick will hopefully help. Having the turning lane all the way back to Stonybrook Dr. will also be helpful for those cars wanting to continue straight through that section.

If you attended the February 2020 Public Meeting where Alternatives were presented, what design aspects do you feel have not been addressed?
Ways to slow down traffic on Trawick road. Road noise (especially on weekends) is incredibly loud from speeding and mufflers. A roundabout may help with cars approaching it, but cars leaving it will allow just as much road noise, if not more!

Roundabouts reduce vehicle speed using geometry rather than traffic signals, causing the traffic to flow at a slow but steady pace throughout the vehicular movement into, around, and out of the roundabout. Roundabouts are designed for slow operating speeds between 15 and 25 mph.

Not sure that enough progress has been made to alleviate backups at Capitol Boulevard.

There is a separate corridor study [https://raleighnc.gov/capital-boulevard-north-study] underway that is looking at improvements to be made along the Capital Blvd. corridor that would address this intersection in a long-term manner. The purpose of the Marsh Creek Road and Trawick Road Improvements Project is to enhance mobility and connectivity for pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicular traffic while improving safety on Marsh Creek Rd./Trawick Rd. between Capital Blvd. and New Hope Rd.

Not completely sure I comprehend how a biker will have space but trust it’ll be articulated in future presentations.

The project uses a 10-foot-wide multi use path for bicycle traffic.

The proposed typical section for Marsh Creek Road currently includes a 12 foot wide center turn lane. If this could be narrowed to 11 feet, would you prefer to have a narrower center turn lane or wider? Why?
I don't think there should be a turn lane. One of the problems with MarshCreek/Trawick is speeding. Having to slow down for other people to turn helps slow down speeders.

Left turning vehicles stopped in a thru lane can present a safety concern as well. A center turn lane provides a place for left turning vehicles to wait and can reduce unanticipated breaking in a thru lane that may result in rear end collisions.

Narrower. I believe more easement will be taken from the affected property owners if it is wider.

As the project progresses to the Advanced Design stage, narrowing the center turn lane width to 11 feet will be considered to reduce property impacts.

Personally have no preference

The Project Team will be considering pedestrian crossings at select locations along the corridor based on proper placement and safety. Where would you like to see a crosswalk for crossing Trawick Road or Marsh Creek Road?
Broadlands Drive

Broadlands Drive, often residents, myself included, from Sedgefield, cross Trawick to walk around the Broadlands neighborhood, and it's currently not safe to do so.
