West Main Street

The Saluda Grade Trail is a planned 31+ mile railroad to trail conversion between Inman (SC) and Zirconia (NC).  This new trail will bring fresh opportunities for recreation and tourism, and the City of Saluda is looking to capitalize on this potential by investing in its downtown, including an improved streetscape along the Main Street corridor that slows vehicles and improves accessibility for all users, as well as promoting redevelopment of property along the trail.

The Foothills Regional Commission Rural Planning Organization (RPO)  and the City of Saluda have begun a planning study to enhance safety, accessibility, and connectivity, while still preserving the small-town character and historic integrity of Saluda’s downtown.

Your feedback and input will play a key role in the development of this concept and help the project team evaluate design alternatives.

The project area is generally located between and U.S.176, from West of Pace Street to Carolina Street.

Stakeholder engagement will play a key role in the development of this concept to help the project team evaluate the feasibility and preferred design alternatives and understand the wants and needs of all stakeholders. The project team is seeking input from community members of all ages and backgrounds, elected officials, business and property owners, and anyone interested in the future transportation along the West Main Street project area, generally located between and U.S.176, from West of Pace Street to Carolina Street.

As part of this effort, a multi‑day design workshop will invite the community to help shape ideas and imagine what the future of Downtown Saluda could look like.
