Background
We use the Stormwater Management Plan to ensure that we are meeting state and federal requirements. We are required to follow rules set by our National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit. Through this permit, we put processes and practices in place to help protect waterways in Raleigh.
Goal
The goal is to limit how much pollution (i.e. bacteria) can go into bodies of water.
Efforts
We update the plan every five years to make sure we are effectively managing stormwater runoff. This includes focusing efforts on improving water quality and ways to protect creeks and streams. The plan outlines:
- How we prevent pollution;
- Maintain the stormwater system; as well as;
- Monitor, educate, and report on stormwater management in Raleigh.
