What We've Heard
Over a series of meetings, research activities, and surveying, we have heard the following challenges and community priorities. Take a look and tell us if this is a summary you can get behind.
- Investments in public facilities are not always done in consideration of the surrounding community
- While there seems to be a concentration of public services, they are not always easy to find or access
- Facilities are in need of improvements like modernization, improved parking, and increased broadband access
- Behavioral and mental health services are not currently accessible in the community, especially for long-term needs
- The new library should be large enough for social distancing, should have dedicated children's space, and located at a site that is community-centered and culturally significant (ex. The Malcolm X School site)
- There is not enough access to existing pools and recreational school property, and a new pool should be considered
- There is a need for indoor and outdoor fitness facilities, as well as other fun amenities such as bowling or miniature golf
- School facilities should be responsive to the needs of students--schools without walls are not responsive
- Urgent care facilities would make healthcare more convenient
The Congress Heights Small Area Plan is led by the Office of Planning (OP). The plan is managed by:
- Valecia Wilson, Ward 7 and 8 Planner, Project Manager
- Faith Broderick, Community Planner, Assistant Project Manager
