Youth Driver Education Program
Youth Driver Education Program
In 2025, NCTCOG selected the Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute (Meadows Institute) to create and implement a program that trains teen drivers, ages 15-18, important aspects of driver training not currently provided in Texas.
The program vision is to reduce youth motor vehicle crash fatalities and the traumatic consequences for survivors and communities. The program incorprates a prevention-based approach through the development of a peer bystandership intervention training program.
High School Participation in Teen Bystandership Curriculum
High schools in Collin, Dallas, Johnson, and Tarrant counties are eligible to participate in a pilot program focused on teen bystandership. The program is designed for students currently enrolled in or planning to enroll in driver’s education courses.
Curriculum Details
The curriculum is developed to encourage bystandership in teen driving situations and includes two (2) hours of instruction, adapted to the interests and needs of young drivers.
Participation Goals
The goal is to reach 100 teens at each participating high school. Instruction will be delivered in classes consisting of 20 to 25 students.
Curriculum Delivery
Representatives from the Meadows Institute will provide in-person delivery of the curriculum at participating schools.
Incentives
Students who participate in the program will receive incentives.
