US 62 Corridor Improvements Project (PID 120617)
US 62 Corridor Improvements Project (PID 120617)
The Ohio Department of Transportation, along with regional partners at the Licking County Transportation Improvement District, have begun the US 62 Corridor Improvements Project to evaluate enhancements along the U.S. 62 corridor to improve safety and traffic flow between Smith's Mill Road/Walton Parkway in New Albany and Clark Drive in Johnstown.
OVERVIEW
The US 62 Corridor Improvements Project aims to support the growth and development of the Central Ohio region through improvements along a 6.2 mile section of the US 62 corridor between Smith’s Mill Road/Walton Parkway in New Albany and Clark Drive at the edge of Johnstown.
The US 62 corridor serves as a principal arterial and critical backbone of the transportation network surrounding the New Albany Manufacturing District and is vital to supporting new economic growth in Central Ohio. It is essential to plan for roadway improvements that will support this new economic growth and address key transportation challenges, including access, congestion, and safety.
LOCATION
The US 62 Corridor Improvements Project is situated in Franklin and Licking Counties, Ohio, approximately 15 miles northeast of downtown Columbus. It spans from Smith’s Mill Road/Walton Parkway in New Albany, near Zarley Industrial Park and the Abercrombie and Fitch Corporate Office, to Clark Drive at the Southern edge of Johnstown.
OBJECTIVES
The project will begin with a feasibility study to identify and evaluate potential alternatives for improvements, including intersection enhancements and other connectivity improvements to benefit traffic flow and to accommodate bicycle and pedestrian traffic.
After the feasibility study is submitted and reviewed, specific improvements will proceed to preliminary engineering, environmental clearance, and final design, with the intention of advancing to “shovel-ready” status. The eventual construction of identified improvements will enhance US 62 and will likely include intersection upgrades throughout the project limits.
PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT
The project team initially met with a technical advisory group and stakeholders in winter 2024 to establish goals and narrow down initial concepts for feasibility and effectiveness.
In Winter 2026, the project team will host a public meeting to gain feedback from the community on the concepts under consideration.
Additional public engagement will continue throughout 2026 prior to moving each selected concept forward through the project design process.
