Periodic Status Review - White tailed deer and red fox

View the Supplemental CR-102 rule proposal and WAC Text

The Department is recommending reclassifying the Columbian white-tailed deer from endangered to threatened and listing the Cascade Red Fox as endangered.

Due to conservation gains in particular the success of translocated populations, Columbian white-tailed deer may no longer meet the definition of Endangered in the state of WA. WDFW proposes changing the classification to Threatened to better align with the definition and reflect the reduced conservation concern and highlight the success.

In addition to the change to the Columbian white-deer, WDFW is now proposing to amend to list the Cascade red fox as Endangered in the state of Washington to reflect a vote previously taken by the Fish and Wildlife Commission. Please see the Supplemental CR-102 for more details.

Give the Columbian White Tail and the Red Fox more time. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Waiting a few more years will only give them more time to thrive.
