Congress Heights History Timeline

What We've Heard

Over a series of meetings, research activities, and surveying, we have heard the following challenges and community priorities. Take a look and tell us if this is a summary you can get behind.

  • Residents appreciate Congress Heights because of its family-friendly community events, amenities such as the Congress Heights Plaza, and its rich, southern soulfulness, due to the number of reesidents who migrate from the South
  • Significant landmarks include THEARC, the Congress Heights Plaza, Ballou High School, the Pavillion, Oxon Run Parkway, and the Horse Barn at St. Elizibeths.
  • There are decades of recent community history of which there is little formal record
  • There is a desire for more accessible historic and cultural sites
  • Community artists need more support and access to opportunity
  • Public art is a priority for the community
  • Educational wayfinding, signage, plaques, and community walks would help highlight local history
