London Road Sidewalk Improvements
The City of Asheville is making improvements to the northern section of London Road (between Sweeten Creek Road and Belvedere Road) including the installation of continuous sidewalk and stormwater infrastructure upgrades. This project is funded by the voter-approved 2024 General Obligation Bond.
Happening Now
This project is now in the design phase, which is anticipated to take approximately one year to complete. Following the finalization of design plans, construction is estimated to begin in early 2027.

Background
This project will install sidewalk on the north end of London Road from Belvedere Road to Sweeten Creek Road, improving connectivity between the residential Shiloh area and the commercial and industrial areas on Sweeten Creek Road and in Biltmore Village. The purpose of this project is to improve mobility, safety, and connectivity for pedestrians on City streets and provide pedestrian connections to important commercial and public amenities.
The project also includes curb ramps, crosswalks, accessible bus boarding areas, and stormwater infrastructure upgrades.

The City recognizes an opportunity to improve safety on London Road in its entire length. At this time, there is no funding allocated for future phases. Starting at the north end of the road allows for continuous pedestrian connection. The City appreciates any feedback from the community on potential future improvements southward on London Road.
