The Austin History Center invites you to join us on Sunday, September 7th from 1-4pm for a celebration and exhibit opening in our new space at 800 Guadalupe Street!

We will have music, food, tours, and activities for the whole family.

We have so many reasons to celebrate: the 25 year Anniversary of the Community Archives Program, our move to a new space, the completion of our survey, and the opening of our new exhibit, Unboxing the Archive: Our Records, Our Stories.

The Community Archives Program began 25 years ago because the community wanted more representation in the archives and the Austin History Center needed staff who could liaise between the city and underrepresented communities. Our Liaisons and Archivists worked closely with community members to cultivate a more rich and diverse offering of archives in our collections. The Community Archives Program is now recognized as a model for municipally-run community archives programs across the country.

Unboxing the Archives: Our Records, Our Stories is an exhibit that helps demystify the archives. What are archives? How are they used? What is the Austin History Center's role in preserving these stories? Learn all of this and more by exploring the first exhibit in our new space!
