Welcome to the July 23, 2024 Asheville City Council Meeting
Find the Virtual Agenda Briefing Meeting - July 18, 2024 at 11 a.m. at the bottom of this page.
- The Agenda Briefing will also be streamed to to the City's YouTube Channel and broadcast on Spectrum Channel 193.
- Pursuant to NC General Statutes sec. 143-318.13 and City Council Rules of Procdure 36(b), the Agenda Briefing Meetings will be held virtually.
On July 23, City Council will meet in-person at 5 p.m. in the Banquet Hall of Harrah's Cherokee Center - Asheville, 87 Haywood Street, Asheville, N.C.
Persons wishing to speak live at the 5 p.m. meeting will be required to attend in person, and are required to sign up at the door.
Parking Available
Free parking will be available.
- Pull a ticket from the kiosk when entering the garage. Take the garage ticket into the meeting with you.
- Obtain a barcode. Please ask the person at the public comment sign-in desk for a free parking barcode (sticker) upon either entering or departing the meeting.
- Place the barcode sticker on the back of the parking garage ticket. (*You do not have to be participating in public comment to obtain a barcode.)
- Exiting the garage without charge. At the departure kiosk, first, scan the standard parking ticket barcode located on the front of the ticket. Then scan the sticker barcode you received at the Council meeting sign-in desk (the sticker you placed on the back of your ticket). The “second scan” will process at the kiosk and allow you to depart without charge.
Face Coverings in Public Spaces
Face coverings are no longer required in public indoor spaces. For City of Asheville buildings, we will no longer require face coverings. However, public health officials still strongly recommend wearing them especially in crowded indoor spaces.
To be clear, the public will no longer be required to wear face coverings in City of Asheville buildings but will be encouraged to wear them.
Interpretation Available Upon Request
If you want to participate in person at the City Council meeting on July 23 and need interpretive services at that meeting, please use this form to request services by 5 p.m. on Friday, July 19, 2024.
Presentations at the Meeting
For those wishing to make a slide or PowerPoint presentation at a formal meeting of City Council, the presentation must be submitted to Maggie Burleson at mburleson@ashevillenc.gov by Noon the day before the formal meeting.
Public Comment at the Meeting
Individuals have up to three minutes to speak to City Council.
A person representing a group of three or more persons (speaker plus three others - total of four) present in the Council Chamber has up to 10 minutes to address City Council.
Public comment period for any item may not exceed one hour.
How to Participate Remotely
To accommodate those who do not yet feel secure attending in person, or those whose are precluded from attending because of schedules or other personal factors, City Council will continue to engage with those members of our community using the following options for participation:
- Remote comments via email (ashevillecitycounciljuly232024@publicinput.com) or voicemail (855-925-2801, meeting code 7037) will continue to be accepted and reviewed by City Council prior to the meeting so long as they are received by 9:00 a.m. on July 23.
- The live meeting will be streamed on the City's YouTube Channel which can be accessed through the YouTube icon on the front page of the City's website or via the livestream at the bottom of this page.
- The live meeting will be available on Charter/Spectrum channel 193.
- You may listen to the meeting through via phone (855-925-2801, meeting code 7037).
- Finally, the public can communicate with the Council by emailing them directly at any time - ashevillenccouncil@ashevillenc.gov.
