Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) Funding for Valrico Reclaimed Water Generator Project
Hillsborough County is seeking public input regarding the Valrico Reclaimed Water Generator Project as part of an application for federal grant funding. This project aims to enhance community resilience by ensuring uninterrupted wastewater treatment services during severe weather events. The public comment period is Dec. 10–19, 2024.
The Valrico Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility, 1167 N. Dover Rd., Dover, FL 33527, serves over 130,000 residents. It provides an essential service that is critical to protecting the health and safety of residents in unincorporated Hillsborough County, so it must be always maintained.
The project involves:
- Installing a 2-megawatt generator with a fuel tank large enough to run the generator at capacity for 7 days.
- Installing a concrete pad to properly elevate and support the generator.
Why This Project Matters:
Severe weather events, including flooding and hurricane winds, especially during the summer rainy season, frequently impact Hillsborough County. This project seeks to mitigate those potential hazards by ensuring that the Valrico Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility remains operational during emergencies. This project helps to safeguards residents’ health and environmental safety.
