Overview
The Baltimore Regional Transit Commission (BRTC) was created by the Maryland General Assembly in 2023 to provide a stronger regional voice for public transit in Anne Arundel County, Baltimore City, Baltimore County, the City of Annapolis, and Howard County.
The Commission reviews transit plans, reports, services, and budgets, and serves as a forum for public input and oversight for the region’s transit providers.
Commissioners are appointed by Governor Wes Moore, county executives, and mayors, including representatives from:
- Local governments in the Baltimore Region
- Transit riders and advocacy organizations
- Labor representatives and industry experts
Purpose and Mission
The BRTC gives residents and officials a stronger voice in how the region’s transit network is planned, funded, and operated.
Our goals are to:
- Review Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) and Locally Operated Transit Systems (LOTS) budgets and performance
- Examine regional transit needs, coordination, and challenges
- Recommend strategies to make transit more reliable, efficient, and equitable
- Promote transparency and accountability in regional transit planning
Meetings are open to the public and include opportunities for comment from both in-person and virtual attendees. We also welcome feedback via online comments at any time using the form below.

The BRTC Newsletter is a monthly publication that keeps residents, transit riders, and partners informed about regional transit news, upcoming meetings, policy updates, and opportunities to get involved. Each issue features highlights from the BRTC’s work, news from local transit providers, legislative updates, and stories about how transit impacts communities in the Baltimore Region.

January 2026 Baltimore Regional Transit Commission Meeting
The Baltimore Regional Transit Commission meets every other month to discuss regional transit issues, hear updates from state and local partners, and receive public comments.
Meetings are held Fridays from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM at the Baltimore Metropolitan Council offices (1500 Whetstone Way, Suite 300, Baltimore, Maryland 21230). The meetings are open to the public and anyone can also join virtually by registering for the Zoom link.
2026 meeting dates: January 23, March 6, May 1, July 17, September 11, and November 13.
Each meeting includes time at the end of the agenda for public participation, both in person and online.
Agendas are posted in advance of each meeting, and materials from past meetings, including agendas, recordings, and presentation slides, are available on our website.
