Middletown/Myersville Recreational Trail Planning Study
Middletown/Myersville Recreational Trail Planning Study
Frederick County Department of Planning is studying the feasibility to build a new recreational trail for people walking and biking connecting between Middletown and Myersville across I-70. This connection was identified in the 2018 Bikeways and Trails Plan and will provide the community with more opportunities to access healthy recreation and alternative transportation options, while moving closer to the vision for a Livable Frederick County. Community members from the area have requested this study to build a new greenway trail that can:
- Connect local communities with a recreational trail
- Improve pedestrian and bicycle safety
- Improve access to parks and open space
- Provide enhanced recreational amenities serving the local community and visitors
- Encourage tourism for heritage and environmental appreciation with connections to scenic areas, seating areas, and interpretive signage.
As we study potential trail types and locations, we want to hear ideas, preferences, and concerns from the public. Several options are being studied including segments on existing roadways, next to existing roadways, or off road and away from roadways. Some potential segments may cut through natural areas or private properties. If so, property owners will be compensated, and environmental enhancements will be included to mitigate for any impacts. Any new trail construction will comply with all local, state, and federal environmental requirements.
