Charlotte is growing, and we want to ensure that growth benefits everyone. That’s why, in 2021, we adopted the Charlotte Future 2040 Comprehensive Plan—a roadmap for our city’s future.

To put that vision into action, we developed 14 Community Area Plans, each one tailored to a different part of the city and shaped by thousands of residents who shared their ideas, priorities, and hopes for their neighborhoods.

First, the plans highlight your community’s greatest needs and point to which Comprehensive Plan goals should be prioritized.

All goals are important, but these plans focus on the ones that are most urgent for your area.

Next, the plans show where development is expected to change and where it should match the existing character of the neighborhood.

The plans also include tools to help you evaluate whether a development proposal supports your community’s priorities. These are especially useful during rezonings.

And you don’t have to wait for a rezoning to use the plans!

The Neighborhood Toolkit offers programs and ideas you can use right now - like organizing a cleanup, starting a mural, plant trees, improving a park, or even requesting sidewalk repairs.

Community Area Plans are your roadmap to shaping growth and ensuring it benefits your community. Explore it, share it with your neighbors, and use it to help shape what comes next.
