The Chatham County Board of County Commissioners has finalized the Fiscal Year 2021 Coronavirus Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG-CV Food Banks): Project: America's Second Harvest Foodbank. The following activities were carried out:
- The acquisition of a 30.77-acre property located within the City of Savannah at 1380 Chatham Parkway. Purchased with offset funds from America's Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia.
- The design, engineering, construction, site work, and parking associated with the completion of construction of a 98,000-square-foot storage center and 53,907-square-foot service center (called the HUB) to be used by America's Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia, a renowned not-for-profit food bank, which serves as a food safety net for vulnerable populations on the Georgia coast threatened by food insecurity.
- The purchase of an 11,463-square-foot freezer used at the storage center facility and a 525-square-foot freezer used at the HUB.
The Chatham County Board of County Commissioners will hold a PUBLIC HEARING on October 18, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. at 124 Bull Street, 2nd Floor, Savannah, Georgia for the purpose of discussing the activities conducted and receiving comments from citizens. The Chatham County Board of County Commissioners has completed its 2017 Chatham County CV Supplement (CDBG-DR) CDBG-DR Infrastructure Program. The $5,000,000 was used along with 2021 CDBG-CV grant funds to cover the construction costs of the 98,000-square-foot storage center and a 53,907-square-foot service center (the HUB) built for use by America's Second Harvest Foodbank of Coastal Georgia.
