Civilian Violence Prevention and Intervention Initiative
Civilian Violence Prevention and Intervention Initiative
The Civilian Violence Prevention & Intervention initiative within the Office of Oversight & Public Accountability leads the City’s civilian efforts to prevent and reduce violence. Serving as a hub for community-based strategies, this area of work advances public safety and healing through proactive, people-centered approaches. By addressing the root causes of violence, coordinating cross-sector partnerships, and empowering residents with the tools and resources to build stronger neighborhoods, the initiative complements the work of other City departments engaged in violence reduction. Through data-driven planning, equitable resource allocation, and meaningful community engagement, it helps create and implement comprehensive strategies that promote trust, reduce harm, and improve the overall quality of life for all Grand Rapids residents.
We welcome your feedback and input on what a thriving, safe neighborhood free of harm looks like. Your participation in these interactive stations will inform the community vision, values and goals for violence prevention strategies that will help push the community forward.
