The purpose of this project is to:

• Determine the ridership potential that could be realized from a  new passenger rail station in Newport.

• Develop preliminary planning and infrastructure that would be required to reintroduce passenger rail service to   Newport, including a new station, track and power upgrades, coordination of passenger and freight operations.

• Identify multimodal connection enhancements for residents and commuters to access station.

• Ensure compliance with federal standards.
