Join us in shaping the future of Raleigh’s urban tree canopy!
Leaf Out is launching a public survey in January 2025, where we’ll ask for your input!
Leaf Out: Goals and Guidance for Trees on City Property is a new initiative focused on preserving and expanding Raleigh’s urban tree canopy, protecting sensitive habitats, and enhancing habitat connectivity across city-owned land. Leaf Out will not address private tree regulations or Unified Development Ordinance policies but will instead focus on Raleigh’s public green spaces.
For those interested in development regulations, we encourage you to get involved with Reflecting Raleigh – The Next Comprehensive Plan to share your input.
Project Phase
Currently, we are in the Research phase (Fall 2024 - Early 2025). This phase involves analyzing existing conditions, data compilation, and collaboration with other city departments.
As we move forward into the Vision & Goals phase (Spring-Summer 2025), we’ll work on benchmarking and developing our long-term goals.
The project will move through the Next Steps phase (Fall-Winter 2025), during which a 5-year action plan will be developed.
