Hillsborough County’s Public Utilities Administration is responsible for protecting the County’s drinking water supplies. This requirement is met through the County’s Land Use Ordinances. Since 1992, the County has had rules and regulations in place to meet these requirements. The County has determined that it is time to update these regulations and is proposing an amendment to the Wellhead and Surface Water Resource Protections.

The updates will result in changes to the existing Wellhead Resource Protection Area and Surface Water Resource Protection Area maps. These maps are published in the Hillsborough County Comprehensive Plan’s Future Land Use Map Series. Included in the public engagement are the proposed new maps that will be adopted into the Hillsborough County Comprehensive Plan Adopted Maps.

The County is requesting your input on these proposed updates. The virtual engagement will be held Sept. 17-30, 2025. There are also two Open Houses that residents can attend.
