Arlington County is updating its Comprehensive Plan with a new Introduction and Guiding Principles!

Arlington’s Comprehensive Plan highlights values and priorities and guides the County Board’s decision making as the community grows. Using community input gathered throughout 2025, the County has drafted a significant piece of the Comprehensive Plan Introduction—Arlington’s Guiding Principles and their complementary Supporting Statements.

Community feedback on these draft Arlington Guiding Principles and Supporting Statements is essential so that community members' lived experiences, needs, and values are reflected in the Comprehensive Plan Introduction.

The Guiding Principles and Supporting Statements in this online form were written specifically for Arlington County, and we want to know how comfortable you are with each one. While the wording is new, the ideas behind them are firmly based on existing County‑adopted policies and initiatives.

What are Guiding Principles? They are value-based statements that express the Comprehensive Plan's intended direction at its highest, overarching level, and guide its goals, policies, maps, and any other related components.

What are Supporting Statements? They are descriptive statements that indicate policy direction and provide greater clarity and definition to each Guiding Principle.

Responses are saved as you progress through the form if you would like to complete it in more than one sitting.
