Community Development Block Grant Program Substantial Amendments
Community Development Block Grant Program Substantial Amendments
The City of Asheville receives funding from the US Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program to support various community development initiatives.
The City has identified $929,070 in existing, uncommitted CDBG funds that can be used to help businesses recover from the Hurricane Helene disaster.
The City will identify non-profit partner organizations to manage the distribution of Business Restabilization Grants to businesses that need to replace physical capital damaged or lost as a result of the disaster.
City Council is being asked to authorize amendments to the 2018-2019 Annual Action Plan and the 2019-2020 Annual Action Plan to provide a concise summary of the actions, activities, and resources associated with these grants. The amendments to Annual Action Plans will identify "Special Economic Development" as the HUD Eligible Activity and meeting an "Urgent Need" as the National Objective through the Business Stabilization Grants. The proposed amendments will be submitted to HUD for approval.
The City is requesting public comment on the proposed changes. City Council will hold a vote to authorize city staff to submit the proposed amendments to HUD on October 22, 2024.
Residents who are not able to attend the City Council meeting are encouraged to submit written comments to Sofia Bonilla by email at sbonilla@ashevillenc.gov or to cdbgamendments@publicinput.com.
For additional information contact Sofia Bonilla, Community Development Coordinator, 70 Court Plaza, Asheville NC 28801, or by email at sbonilla@ashevillenc.gov. Comments and questions should be received by 5pm, October 21, 2024.
