Austin Parks and Recreation is beginning planning for Eilers (Deep Eddy) Neighborhood Park at 401 Deep Eddy Ave. This concept planning process seeks to identify community priorities, restore the park to more natural and sustainable conditions within the floodplain and along the riverbank, explore access to the lake, improve access to the park for people who walk, bike and roll, improve parking lot circulation, and more. Existing features such as the community garden, playscape, pool, and bathhouse will remain as they are.

Park Experiences and Amenities
Currently, amenities include benches, picnic tables, a playground (completed in 2018), a community garden (established 1983), limestone steps to a wooden lake dock, and a park trail. We are exploring the inclusion of nature play elements and additional seating. The image below shows the park boundaries. Deep Eddy Pool and EMS are not part of this planning process.

Lake Access
Currently, limestone steps lead to a wooden dock at Lady Bird Lake. We are trying to understand whether additional river access for safe recreation is appropriate for this location and whether there is interest. In addition, we are exploring restoration along the riverbank to more natural and sustainable conditions.

Parking and Circulation
Parking in front of the Deep Eddy entrance is the primary parking for visitors. Additional overflow parking can be found west of the paved lot. This process will evaluate and provide recommendations for parking lot circulation, capacity, and safety. In addition, the concept plan will provide opportunities for additional pedestrian, bike, and vehicular access to the park, emphasizing increased pedestrian and bike access.
