Greenway Solar Light Pilot Survey
Greenway Solar Light Pilot Survey
Raleigh’s Greenway team has gotten numerous requests for better lighting on the greenways. In response to those requests, we are conducting a pilot to learn more about how dimmable solar lighting affects the greenway experience for residents. For this pilot project, lighting is programmed to operate at 100% luminosity for one hour after sunset and one hour before sunrise. With an interest in limiting negative environmental impacts, lighting will be powered down to 20% during all other night-time hours. Based on the outcomes of the pilot, the City may evaluate adding similar lighting in strategic locations - but lighting of the entire Capital Area Greenway System is not being considered.
Have you noticed the new solar light pole and bollards along the Crabtree Creek greenway trail that were installed in May 2026?
One pole mounted light has been installed just east of Capital Boulevard and five bollard lights were installed on the boardwalk between Capital Boulevard and N. Raleigh Boulevard.
