Welcome

OVERVIEW

The Lowcountry is growing, and the communities along the LCRT corridor are at the center of that change. As South Carolina's first bus rapid transit system comes to the Lowcountry, we have an opportunity to not only preserve, but to establish parameters and guidelines that focus on improving quality of life for communities and residents. Transit Oriented Development (TOD) is a planning strategy focused on thoughtfully creating livable, walkable communities centered around public transit stations.

For decades, residents and businesses along the LCRT have worked to build a community rich with history, character, and vitality. The TOD Planning process seeks to strengthen communities across the LCRT Corridor by identifying corridor-wide housing affordability strategies, lifting up strategies to support small businesses, and establishing specific neighborhood framework plans anchored in community voices and designed to articulate community priorities for the growth ahead.

LCRT construction is approaching, and the decisions made now will define the LCRT corridor for generations. This planning effort exists to make sure policies put in place now positively impact longstanding residents and businesses. LCRT adjacent neighborhoods are rich with history but grappling with sudden changes in a high-growth region. Now is the moment to write what comes next—ensuring that policy-backed solutions and investments move forward together.
