NDOT HOV NEPA Study
NDOT HOV NEPA Study
Project Overview
High-Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes help move more people on the highway without adding extra lanes. They are meant to make travel easier for those who carpool or take public transit, offering faster trips during busy times compared with regular lanes. The Southern Nevada HOV Plan summarizes the proposed approach for including HOV lanes on highways in this area. The most recent HOV plan (2018) and more information about the HOV lanes in Southern Nevada is at this link.
Tell Us What You Think About The HOV Lanes!
Take Our Quick 5-Minute Survey and Share Your Experience! The purpose of this survey is to hear from the community about how you use the HOV lanes.
HOV Study
In April 2023, the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) changed the hours of operation on the HOV lanes to only be operational 6-8 a.m. and 4-6 p.m. on weekdays instead of 24 hours per day. NDOT has initiated a study to evaluate the current use of the HOV lanes and determine if additional changes should be made to the system.
Reason For The Study
This study is being conducted to understand how the HOV lanes are being used, including current use of all lanes on the freeways that include HOV lanes. The study will also consider crash data, environmental factors, and input from the community.
The study will assess whether the existing Southern Nevada HOV system meets its original goals:
- Maximize highway capacity
- Provide reliable travel times for commuters
This study may result in changes to the Southern Nevada HOV Plan (which may affect future highway projects) or changes to the existing HOV system.
