Comprehensive Transportation Plan
Comprehensive Transportation Plan
The Comprehensive Transportation Plan Long range, needs-based plan; representing consensus by the community and the State on the future transportation system (including the existing system and improvements) needed to support anticipated growth and development over approximately a 25–30-year timeframe.
Comprehensive Transportation Plans are required by North Carolina Legislature (NC General Statute 136-66.2) and are jointly adopted by the North Carolina Department of Transportation and the Triangle West Transportation Planning Organization. Additionally, the Comprehensive Transportation Plan
- is multimodal and includes highways, public transit, rail, bicycle, and pedestrian infrastructure
- identifies all known transportation needs and is not fiscally constrained
- does not include final design but informs final designs in short term planning efforts like the STIP
This project is designed as a central outreach and engagement hub for the Comprehensive Transportation Plan and amendments.
