What We Heard in Previous Community Feedback

We heard in the first community engagement a preference for:

  • Improved bathroom placement.
  • Amended picnic shelter orientation.
  • Clear visibility from the playground and basketball court.
  • Plantings of native plants and trees.

Concept #1 was preferred to Concept #2 by the community. Feedback on both concepts was used to inform the final concept design.

What's Included in the Final Concept

The final draft concept for the Lacey Woods Park renovation project combines the community's perspectives with the project scope to meet users' needs. The final concept includes features like:

  • Centrally locating the picnic shelter to allow for a clear line of sight from a basketball court to a playground.
  • Increased seating options.
  • The use of natural materials for some of the building components and site furnishings.
  • The stormwater management/bio-retention area will enhance the existing habitat through biophilic design.
  • 7 trees are planned for removal; 23 native trees to be planted. Lacey Woods Park exceeds the 40% tree canopy requirements per the Forestry and Natural Resources Plan; it is currently at 85%.
