On March 1, 2023, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released the Climate Pollution Reduction Grants (CPRG) program The CPRG is a two-phase grant program which will provide grants to develop and implement plans for reducing greenhouse gas emissions

The first phase, the CPRG planning grants, will provide $250 million for noncompetitive planning grants to develop a climate action plan.  Development of a climate action plan for the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) region is a required step for any eligible local government to access the $4.6 billion of CPRG implementation grant funding from the second phase of the CPRG

The Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) and neighboring jurisdictions are eligible for $1 million from the CPRG planning grants The EPA requires one eligible lead organization to apply on behalf of the areaThe lead organization will be responsible for managing grant funds and overseeing the climate action plan development process on behalf of the entire MSA and neighboring jurisdictions.

NCTCOG has applied as the lead organization on behalf of the DFW MSA. NCTCOG will begin developing the regional climate action plan in Summer 2023.
