PROJECT BACKGROUND
Highland Park is one of the City of Grand Rapids' most unique public spaces. This large-scale community park has multiple open greens, valuable natural habitats, and a variety of recreation amenities.
With several master plan improvements accomplished in recent years and the anticipated placement of a new boulder wall (rock climbing) in the park this Fall, the City is evaluating the park master plan for necessary updates to enhance safety, usability, and vibrancy of the south side of the park and exisitng natural areas.
MASTER PLAN UPDATE SURVEY RESULTS
108 neighbors shared input on the Master Plan Update survey for Highland Park (available Jul-Sept 2021). Overall, neighbors enjoy the natural spaces, walking paths and pollinator garden the park has to offer and are in favor of greater accessibility and activation.
Top priorities for improvements were:
New Walking Paths | 47% |
Footbridge Over Coldbrook Creek | 39% |
New Bathroom Facility | 38% |
Other (bike polo/ multi-use court, seating) | 38% |
More Lighting | 36% |
