Providence Paving and Restriping Program 2024

FCDOT is proposing the following changes within the Providence District as part of the 2024 Paving and Restriping Program:

  • Bike Lanes on Anderson Road between Birdwood Avenue and Magarity Road 
  • Capital Bikeshare station at Anderson Road and Dartford Drive

1. Anderson Road is slated to be repaved between Birdwood Avenue and Magarity Road. Per the Countywide Bicycle Master Plan, FCDOT proposes to add bike lanes and a Capital Bikeshare station to Anderson Road.

FCDOT studied parking utilization of Anderson Road and found while 48 street parking spaces were well-used between Birdwood Avenue and Colshire Drive the adjacent apartment property has 355 off-street spaces and the property is slated to be redeveloped.

For Anderson Road between Birdwood Avenue and Colshire Drive, please rank these options in order of preference.

FCDOT found that street parking was not well-used on this segment, averaging approximately five vehicles.

3. Proposed Capital Bikeshare station at Anderson Road and Dartford Drive.

This location would allow residents and visitors to ride to the McLean Metro and more than 700 Capital Bikeshare stations throughout the region.
