I am writing to express my enthusiastic support for the City of Arvada’s proposed Climate Action and Sustainability Plan. There is an increasing urgency for local governments to take action against climate change, and I believe that this plan outlines a comprehensive approach to reducing Arvada’s greenhouse gas emissions, promoting sustainability, and fostering a more just and resilient community.
The plan's focus on addressing building energy use, water conservation, land use best practices, waste diversion, and economic development, coupled with the broad range of strategies outlined in each of these sectors, demonstrates Arvada’s holistic, but tailored, approach to climate action and sustainability. Moreover, the plan’s emphasis on achieving equitable outcomes and communitywide resilience through implementation of the strategies ensures that this plan will provide lasting benefits to all, and will strengthen the fabric of Arvada’s unique community.
I am also impressed by the plan's robust community engagement with key stakeholders and the general public throughout the process. Arvada residents, who represent diverse backgrounds, businesses, and expertise, were empowered through this plan’s various engagement tactics to shape the development of the strategies and overall outcome of the plan. It is important to continue to engage with the broader Arvada community as this plan is implemented.
I fully support the climate and sustainability goals and goal areas outlined in this plan, which were crafted to reflect community values and priorities, and I look forward to partnering with the City of Arvada on rolling out this plan to achieve those goals.
