CHATHAM COUNTY WANTS YOUR INPUT FOR THE GIS STRATEGIC PLAN

Chatham County has partnered with Geographic Technologies Group (GTG) to develop a comprehensive Geospatial Strategic Plan.

The project includes an evaluation of all current GIS conditions and needs. Feedback from Chatham County citizens will help assess the current state of GIS processes and enhance future GIS services.

What is GIS?

A Geographic Information System (GIS) is a computer system capable of creating, managing, displaying, and analyzing spatial (location) and tabular (table) data. GIS arranges data in layers, each containing different information. Each layer may come from a different source (Planning, Public Works, State, or Federal agencies). The information can then be cross-referenced, visualized, and explored to answer questions.

GIS is not just ‘maps’. Maps are static, but GIS is dynamic. GIS maps and data are constantly updated to provide geographically referenced information needed for efficient County operations and critical decision-making.
