Downtown La Crosse is a distinct urban district where people live, work, and play. The district character is reflective of the unique businesses, institutions, historic buildings, and activities that thrive downtown. Since 1992 the City of La Crosse and Downtown Main Street Inc. have worked together to plan for the future of downtown. It is time to update the City Vision 2020 plan in light of market changes, new developments, and economic pressures that necessitate a new vision for the next 20 years. Ideally during a visioning process there would be many in-person opportunities to engage and provide feedback. Understanding the need to socially distance and respect everyones comfort levels more Zoom meetings and online engagement is planned. Our in-person events may also look a little different, with outdoor open houses (weather permitting) and the potential use of schedule times for people to stop by future events. In the end, this document will be:
- Visionary, yet realistic
- Address near term resiliency, but create a long-term vision
Imagine 2040 Plan
Over the last year, the City of La Crosse and Downtown Mainstreet have been updating the city’s downtown plan, Imagine 2040. While concepts were shared at the open house (www.imaginedowntownlacrosse.com), the plan represents additional supporting narrative and graphics to communicate the strategies for the future.
