What We Heard in Previous Community Feedback

We heard in the first community engagement a preference for:

  • Enhancing playground safety with appropriate fencing and gates.
  • Improving paths and accessibility for all, including those with mobility challenges.
  • Emphasizing the planting of native species to benefit local ecosystems.
  • Improved park maintenance practices and management approaches of natural and play areas.

What's Included in the Final Concept

The design development plan concept for the Bailey’s Branch project combines the preferences identified by the community and civic association with the project scope to meet users' needs. The design development plan includes features like:

  • New ADA-compliant playgrounds for ages 2-5 and 5-12, with accessible surfacing.
  • New site furnishings, including a shade structure between the field and playground, picnic tables, increased seating options, and signage.
  • Specialty items, such as a bench swing.
  • Improved fencing around park property.
  • Use of natural materials in and around the park and play areas for edges and seating.
  • Stormwater management in the form of a reforestation area within the RPA, with the potential for additional rain garden/swale interventions.
  • Improved lawn field conditions with aeration, seeding, and site drainage.
  • Native plantings to enhance landscape strategies supportive of resource conservation and habitat enhancement through biophilic design.
