Background

Located at 7400 Old Telegraph Road in Alexandria, Olander Banks, Sr. and Margaret Lomax Banks Neighborhood Park is a 10-acre green space in the Franconia District, adjacent to the Kingstowne community.  

The Park Authority presented a recommendation for the future of Banks Park to the Park Authority Board at the Board Meeting on December 10, 2025. A copy of the meeting minutes is available here.

Public Meetings

The Fairfax County Park Authority invites the community to learn more about proposed improvements at Banks Community Park during a public meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 6 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Franconia Governmental Center (7130 Silver Lake Blvd., Alexandria) in room G-117, the Laurel Grove Community Room.

Last spring, the Fairfax County Park Authority hosted a public comment meeting to discuss potential renovations at Banks Community Park. Comments received informed the proposed plans for the park. A copy of the PowerPoint presentation shared during the public meeting on March 20 is available here

Public Comment

Following the public meeting on Sept. 16, the Park Authority will once again receive public comments on the proposed plans for the park. Comments will be accepted until October 16, 2026 until 5 p.m.
