ADA Transition Plan Engagement

Metro is working to make it easier for people with disabilities to use public transportation and we want to hear from you!

Public transportation is a route to opportunity because it helps connect people to work, school and other important places. But people with disabilities face many barriers when trying to get around in King County.

We want to make sure everyone can use public transportation safely and equitably. That is why, since 2023, we have been developing a plan under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to guide us in making our services more accessible, enabling everyone in King County to ride Metro.

What is Metro’s ADA Transition Plan?

The ADA requires government agencies to make sure everyone can use their programs and services. The ADA also requires these agencies to have an ADA Transition Plan, which is a guide to removing barriers and improving access for everyone.

Here is what Metro completed in 2023-2024:

  • We’ve looked at our policies, programs and services as they relate to people with disabilities.
  • We’ve talked to people with disabilities to hear about their experiences.
  • We’ve made recommendations to improve access.
  • We’ve learned how other agencies serve people with disabilities.

How can you be involved?

Thank you to all the organizations and individuals who participated in the public engagement of King County Metro's ADA Transition Plan. We are pleased to present a final draft and one-page for a 30-day period of public review and comment. We would like to share the transition plan with Metro riders and community members for a final opportunity to provide feedback and/or support of the plan before we finalize and adopt it as our workplan to improve the accessibility of our services.

The ADA Transition Plan is open for final comment to the public for 30 days prior to final publication. Please share your comments by January 10, 2024.

Metro will use the information you share with us to improve and prioritize the steps we’ll take in the coming years to make our system more accessible for people with disabilities.
